Charity

Cleveland Lodge has a well-deserved reputation for providing generous support both to Masonic Charities and to local good causes.

Subscriptions to the Freemasons Grand Charity 1995 Festival exceeded £32,000, whilst our contribution to the Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys 2005 Festival amounted to over £49,000. On these occasions the amounts raised by brethren were bettered by only two and one Lodges, respectively, within the Province of Yorkshire, North & East Ridings. Significant donations were also made in response to the 2007-2008 appeal by the Provincial Grand Master on behalf of the two regional Air Ambulance Services. The appeal raised no less than £151,000.

In addition to charitable-giving by individual members, the Lodge Social Committee plays an important role in raising funds. Recent efforts have enabled enable donations be made to local schools and such organisations as Zoe’s Place children’s hospice at Eston and Heritage Homecare attached to the Friarage Hospital at Northallerton.

The Lodge keeps in touch with the Widows of departed brethren each of whom receives a cash donation at Christmas.

Our Lodge Almoner undertakes this task in addition to his main duties of keeping in touch with those brethren and dependants who are experiencing difficulty and assisting where appropriate.

OUR WORK
Each year, the Worshipful Master will select a charity he wishes to support during his time in office.

We work to raise funds throughout his year and present a sizeable donation to this and other worthy causes at our December meeting.

We also support local and national appeals and were one of only a few Lodges within the Province to receive a Platinum Gavel from the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master in recognition of our contributions to our Provincial Festival appeal.

Community Care Bus
W Bro Peter Marsh, a Past Master of Cleveland Centenary Lodge 6249, and Bro William Pine of Cleveland Lodge 543 joined Phil Henderson, manager of Stokesley Community Care Association, at the recent unveiling of the SCCA’s new mini-bus.

Purchase of the specially-adapted vehicle was assisted by grants from a variety of local government and voluntary sources; the latter included a donation of £4,400 raised by Cleveland Lodge with the support of local Mark and Allied Masonic Degrees lodges, and both Craft (FCYNER) and Mark Provincial Charities.

The bus driven by voluntary drivers provides an invaluable service to elderly and disabled people in Stokesley and outlying villages by conveying them for shopping trips, medical appointments and occasional social outings.
